I’ve always been a putterer. Someone that’s never quite satisfied with the way things look, so I change them from time to time. With my blog, I tend to be a little more bells and whistles than I am on content. Of course, when I get something in my teeth, I rarely let go. Until I do something about it. For better or worse.
I’ve been looking to change the way the blog looks from a standpoint of someone coming here the first time. Instead of clicking on the link from someone else’s blog and *bam* they’re right there, reading posts, they get a ‘Welcome’ page, for lack of a better term, and -then- they can get to the blog at their own leisure. Of course, WP doesn’t always make it that simple, you have to jump through a few hoops to get there.
As with most things that I do, I tend to do a little research before stepping into the mud puddle, and this was no different. WordPress’ own help section was anything but, actually it seemed to be geared more toward someone with a Computer Science degree (admittedly, I don’t have one, but I did minor in Comp Sci 30 some odd years ago). Even the ‘How-to’ pages I found Googling the issue weren’t a lot of help either, they for the most part were written from the standpoint of ‘we’re pretty sure you understand the basic underpinnings, so we’re not going to be writing this as if you’re a total n00b’. Which is great, if you understand the basic underpinnings. I’m starting to think I need to get a “WordPress for Dummies” book.
Anyway, the point of all this is, I changed the way the blog looks a bit. There’s a landing page now on the outside, and where you are here, is the inner goodies. Will there be more changes in the future? Probably. I’ve never been one that’s been satisfied with the way things are for very long. I’m a putterer. Puttering is my bag.
